Yasaka Silver All Wood Ch.Pen

This product was discontinued and would no longer be available.

Number of Layers : 5
approximate weight (g) : 85
Blade Type : OFF
thickness (mm) : 5.8
A unique blade, the Yasaka Silver All Wood has a red outer ply that is very hard and yet the blade itself has good flexibility. For an allround blade, you can still generate great power and the flexibility allows the user to loop well and with strong spin. This is a great choice for a large variety of players.

I selected this as my first personal blade, and, so far, I am happy with it. I am using it with Mark V max on both sides using RPB(reverse penhold backhand).

The first noticeable aspect of this blade is its design and workmanship, it looks great and seems to be of high quality.

The blade has an adequate amount of speed and is fine for me whether it be close to the table or from mid-distance (I haven't started playing more than 3m from the table), perhaps a bit more power is needed on the backhand for finishing points but that can be fixed by changing the rubber. The greatest quality of this blade is probably its control, due to its flex and all-wood construction, I am able to consistently put the ball on the table wherever I want even with riskier shots. The spin I can produce with this blade is also amazing, very rarely can my opponents of the same level return my reverse pendulum serve, heavy backspin chops, and slow and spinny loops.

I personally enjoy the feel of the blade, it has a bit of flex but doesn't feel like it'll snap in half on hard smashes and allows me to play a solid blocking and short touch game as well. A unique(?) property of this blade is that it seems to stiffen up on harder hits but remains flexible on lighter strokes, I don't know what causes this or if it is a common attribute, but so far, I immensely enjoy this property.

The shipping and customer service from TT11 was absolutely stellar, they obliged an additional request that I had despite sending them the request one day after I placed the order. Huge thanks to TT11, I will definitely be purchasing from this retailer in the future.

All in all, I rate this blade:
Speed - 7.5/8
Control - 9
Spin - 8.5/9

31/12/2018 Unbeatable value. Good dwell time, feeling, power, control. Large sweet spot for an all wood blade. Review by David X
Quality
This was my second blade after the YEO 7 Power with the same rubbers. I use reverse penhold backhand (RPB) and my playing level is currently around 1700 US rating. This is a very underrated blade. Similar to the Yasaka Sweden Extra, but with a noticeably bigger sweet spot (due to the harder outer surface).
In comparison to the YEO 7 Power:
-More dwell time. I could immediately feel that it was easier to lift underspin balls with this blade, especially on the backhand. My coach even commented that my loops were more spinny after I switched to this blade.
-More control: Blocking is much easier due to the slower speed. Looping half-long underspin balls out of position is also much easier to keep on the table, since the blade is slower and has more dwell. I probably earned 30% more points as before because I had a lot fewer unforced errors due to this blade.
-Not lacking in power. From mid and far distance, this blade does not lack power as long as your technique is good (using hips and forearm snap). Having faster rubbers that have higher throw angle will also help (I use boosted hurricane 3). I can backhand loop (RPB) far from the table as well if I add wrist and a little body.
-Sweet spot is around the size of a baseball. It’s slightly less than YEO 7 Power, but let's be honest: YEO 7 Power has a HUGE sweet spot that can rival that of the Butterfly ZJK super ZLC. So the sweet spot on this is a good size for an all wood blade, but you can definitely tell when your contact is clean or not – helped me realize when I should slow down a bit on the loop to control the contact point.
-Feeling is very noticeable – When you hit the sweet spot, it’s about the same amount of vibration as the YEO 7 Power. But the feeling itself isn’t really crisp in quality like the YEO 7 Power. It’s more like a low-frequency tuning fork (that doesn’t vibrate as long).
Notes:
-You might have to add a coat of lacquer to the edge of the blade since the soft center layer of wood might stick to your edge tape and peel off in little bits. Also, if you accidentally hit the table when “pushing” no-spin short serves, the edges of the red outer layer might break off just a little bit (a millimeter or two). But it’s very minor and I haven’t had issues with delamination in the couple months I’ve had this blade. (And for this price, replacing it 9 times in a row would still be less expensive than a high-end butterfly blade)
-The value is PHENOMENAL. I got it on sale for $29 from TT11. This is an unbeatable price. Will buy again for sure.

Yasaka is always good at penhold blade. This one is always good at control. But after I buy it(€35.00), the "Yasaka silver carbon" is in special price(€40.00). what a pity. That's why I think the price is 4 stars.

I tested the blade right after it arrived at my place and I liked it when I started drilling with it!

I can drive, loop, push and block with ease. You can use rubbers from medium soft to medium hard though for this blade, I prefer to use medium hard rubbers.

Since I liked the blade so much, I ordered for a second one! I recommend this all-around blade to fellow penhold players.

this is the best price for what it offers for a 5 ply wood racket from Yasaka. I have purchased 4 of these with different rubbers. I find the best combo is with Yasaka Rakza soft on both sides. That will keep the weight to be around 170-175 grams. Perfect for a penholder.
