The cap makes sure it doesn't get dirty. Just make sure you let it dry before you put the cap back on, otherwise it gets kind of gross.

not a fan of this product and prefer the regular sponge not attached to its case

The main problem is after use, it takes time to dry and is hard to clean. once you close it it keeps some of the water and humidity inside the case and for future uses, it stays wet and carries a weird smell.

I've been using this sponge for a month, since I liked how I can just put on the cap, and be done with it, but it doesn't clean off anything, really, and just spreads around any kind of dirt and dust.

Since it's impossible to press down with any kind of force, it's just not very effective, from how I've been using it.

It does, however, spread out cleaning solutions evenly, allowing them to dry without any marks and dry fairly quickly, if that makes a difference.
