31/01/2022 Darker Cegna Blade Review by Grant Rodgers
Quality
As an opening statement, I can say that I am impressed with the overall workmanship of Darker blades. I now own two of them, the Cegna and the Imperial Hinoki 2020. The Imperial Hinoki 2020 is made in Japan and the Cegna says on the outside of its box that it is designed in Japan and made in China. In any case, it is well made and I am enjoying playing with it. The blade has an OFF rating but I can confirm that it has a softer feel to it than most other OFF-rated blades. That can be attributed to the two cellulose fiber layers (CNF) that are fairly close to the surface on each side of the blade. The CNF layers can be seen when you examine the edge of the blade. The result of the CNF layers is that this racquet holds the ball slightly longer (dwell time) in play, and thus, has a softer touch. I am at a point in my playing career where I now want more than one racquet to choose from for any given occasion so having the Darker Cegna available to me in my arsenal is a nice addition for a switch-up from some of my other rigs. You may want to give it a try!
20/12/2021 Close to table killer, too uncontrollable off the table Review by Zane Cundiff
Quality
Very stiff. Soft feeling and requires a delicate player who doesn’t hit hard but can spin and let the racket do the powering. Good blocking, decent touch game. Not slow, but not wicked fast either. Paired best with less bouncy rubbers like Dignics series and G-1 where they are a tad less bouncy. I tend to be a hitting looper and go for loop kills and this blade did not work well for me. Great for counter players on the table and those with a really good feel and touch.
06/10/2021 Fine touch and enough power Review by Javier Herrero
Quality
This blade provides an excellent balance between power and control. It provides an outstanding fine touch on the table and still enough power to play at mid-distance. It feels very much like an all-wood blade, but with an extra kick when needed due to the CNF layer. This add-up is however more subtle than in carbon- or ALC-based blades. Particularly indicated for players oriented towards a controlled attack game. The quality is very good, as expected coming from Darker. I was successfully using a BTY Innerforce Layer ALC but I shifted to the Cegna and I do not regret it at all (similar power but even higher control).
28/09/2021 What I was looking for Review by Jose Antonio Rodriguez
Quality
I was looking for something a bit faster than my 5P-2A, but still easy to control and with a wood feel. Cegna feels like wood on soft over-the-table shots but has a bit more power than all-wood blades when further away from the table. Darker seem to have maintained their high-quality control standards.
13/07/2021 Amazing New Blade Fiber Technology Review by Anthony P.
Quality
Limba surface with the Cellulose Nano Fiber (CNF) underneath and Kiri core. Head size 258mm x 152 mm and 6.3 thickness. Using it with Rakza Z 2.0 F/H and Fastarc G-1 B/H. Balance is a little bit on the head which I like for easy racket movements. Hitting and looping are both excellent but I like more it's looping ability. Through the years, I've used several that I consider as very good looping blades ( Innerforce ALC 1st version, TB ZLF, Innerforce ALC.S, Joola Fever, Nittaku Acoustic, DHS Long 3, etc.). Darker Cegna, so far gives the most nice-looking and the sharpest loops that I have experienced from a blade. It can produce medium to med-high arcs carrying the ball with a massive spin for a piercing hook down and bounce. Flicking and over-the-table attacks are also very good. Control in short play and blocking is good with passive strokes or with just small racket movements. The blade is average stiff, ball bounce is crisp but the CNF provides a dwell time that is just right, not too long, and not too short with a good catapult effect.
Overall, an excellent blade that is unique and very effective for my play style.
