I've been playing with the Freitas ALC for quite a while and have wanted to try out the JM ZLC for years.

The blade is nice on low impact (topspin) shots but there is a decreasing rate of return when you try to exert more power. This is opposite to ALC where the ball gets faster the more power you impart onto it. Possibly the most challenging aspect of the JM ZLC is touch play. I often triggered the “flex” of the blade unintentionally, causing the ball to pop higher than expected. A lot of practice and getting used to is required here.

The backhand feels really nice and I was able to play with more confidence and consistency than ALC blades. There is a lot of safety when blocking, hitting, and looping because the ball is thrown high and then it dips on the opponent’s side. The forehand was not as amazing though. The same shots felt good but I struggled to create any element of danger as my opponent had a much easier time returning my shots (compared to ALC). The biggest “problem” I’ve experienced with the blade is with big forehand topspin to topspin. Without getting the brushing technique perfect, many balls would just go in the net.

Lobbing and counter looping from mid/far to table was very easy and I felt more confident executing these shots (like the real Mizutani!) compared to ALC. I assume this is the curve ZLC creates.

Overall, JM ZLC is a fun blade to play with but it takes a lot of getting used to and isn't going to be for everyone. I will go back to Freitas ALC as my game with it is much more stable due to the blade being easier to predict.
Rubbers I used on both JM and Freitas were Neo Hurricane 3 on FH and Tenergy 80 on BH.
